Over the weekend we were able to weed all the beds and burn a lot of the debris from the winter. Did you know that wood ash does provide some nutrients to the soil (like potassium and phosphorous), however it does increase the amount of clay in your soil so don’t add too much, better yet add it to your compost pile! (Also wood ash is alkaline which means do not add it to your acid loving blueberries, rhododendrons, etc.).
In the beginning of March we purchased three additional fruit trees (apple, cherry and plum) and now they are finally putting out their new shoots of green growth for this year. Our original cherry tree (5 years old) also put out a few cherry blossoms so hopefully we will be able to harvest some before the birds this year.
