Welcome to the Northwest Gardening Blog. Being a home gardener in the Northwest is not an easy task as the sun shines about 2-3 months of the year, the nighttime temperatures rarely get above 60 even in summer and the weeds seem to appear overnight in the form of Himalayan Blackberries.

With these challenges there are many different ways to grow your own food that will provide your family with an excellent addition to any meal that is both healthy and affordable.

So what does one need for a garden? Basically soil, water and sun. These three basics in the right composition and combination will allow you to grow whatever you like however, here in the Northwest we have too much rain, acidic soil and very little sun so unless you want to grow moss these conditions have to be changed and how to make a better garden is the point of this blog.
